Design and New Construction
Exeter Hotel
EXETER HOTEL AND RESTAURANT WAS PART OF THE REGENERATION OF THE TRYGGVAGATA PLOT IN REYKJAVÍK.
THE CONCEPT OF THE PLOT IS CENTRED AROUND ITS UNIQUE LOCATION IN THE CITY CENTER AND ITS CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE OLD HARBOUR. THE DESIGN FOCUSED ON CREATING A POSITIVE AND WELCOMING ADDITION TO THE VIBRANT URBAN COMMUNITY FOR RESIDENTS AND TOURISTS ALIKE. FURTHERMORE AN EMPHASIS WAS PLACED ON ADAPTING THE NEW STRUCTURES TO EXISTING URBAN FABRIC.
THE HOTEL COMPRISES OF TWO NEW BUILDINGS AS WELL AS AN EXISTING HOUSE FROM 1904, ALL CONNECTED WITH AN INNER COURTYARD. THE OLD HOUSE WAS CALLED EXETER HOUSE, ERGO GIVING THE NAME TO THE HOTEL. IN KEEPING WITH THE CONCEPT OF THE TRYGGVAGATA PLOT THE EXETER HOUSE WAS RECONSTRUCTED TO ITS ORIGINAL DESIGN, WHILE THE INTERIOR WAS REDESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE ITS NEW USE.
