Design and Transformation
Fiskhöllin
FESTIR REBUILT FISKHÖLLIN, A HISTORIC BUILDING WHICH WAS PART OF THE REGENERATION OF THE TRYGGVAGATA PLOT IN DOWNTOWN REYKJAVÍK. THE BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1906 AS A FISH PROCESSING PLANT AND WAS COMMONLY CALLED THE FISH PALACE. BEING A REFLECTION OF ITS TIME, WITH SIMPLE CONCRETE FACADE AND STEEL FRAMED WINDOWS, THE BUILDING IS ALSO INSPIRED BY THE SWISS CHALET STYLE WITH ITS CORNER TOWER, WOODEN DOOR AND OTHER DECORATIVE ELEMENTS.
THE PLANNING CONCEPT OF THE TRYGGVAGATA PLOT WAS CENTRED AROUND ITS UNIQUE LOCATION, BEING IN THE CITY CENTER AND A CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE OLD HARBOUR. EMPHASIS WAS PLACED ON RECLAIMING THE URBAN FABRIC OF THE PAST AND THEREFORE THE ORIGINAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE FISH PALACE WAS COMPLETELY RECONSTRUCTED, WHILE THE INTERIOR WAS REBUILT ACCORDING TO DEMANDS OF A CONTEMPORARY OFFICE SPACE.
Elegance in the spirit of days passed
